Welcome to CollectoPhiliac.com

I've been called everything from a Collector to a horder to a pack-rat, I guess they all fit.  I've been collecting Coins and Currency for over 25 years, comics and cards for over 30 and Bobble Heads for about 10 or so. I specialize in US Currency before 1923 and all US Coins. I also have extensive knowledge of US Fractional Notes. I am a member of the American Numismatic Association and the California Numismatic Association.

I currently have the following types of collectibles:

COINS, CURRENCY, COMIC BOOKS, TRADING CARDS, BOBBLE HEADS
Here is a brief list of the types of items we carry...

I have a note that has "HAWAII" written across the front and back, why?

During WWII the US issued special war currency to the Pacific Islands.  These notes carry a brown seal and have Hawaii written twice on the front and once across the back.  This was in case the money was taken by enemy forces, it could immediately be recognized and devalued.

The US did the same thing for the North Africa forces.  These carry a yellow seal.

When did the US stop making large currency and start making small currency?

Up until 1923 the US created large currency, known as horse blanket bills.  Starting in 1928 the US began to issue small currency, the same size that it issues today.

What was the first year of official US Currency?

1862 was the first official US Currency, although the individual states issued colonial currency before that.
